About the Project
MOGS (Multidimensional Optical Gimbal for Spectroscopy) was a research project conducted as part of my high school's senior research requirement. The system is a custom-designed gimbal system for mounting a lens system for spectrometers on UAVs. This project was developed for NASA Goddard Space Flight Center to enable aerial spectroscopic measurements over bodies of water.
The system has a lens system to collimate light into fiber optics to deliver to the spectrometer, contained by 3D printed structural components and stepper motors for accurate acutation to any pointing angle in a hemisphere. The project required experimenting with optical systems and designing systems for use on aircraft.
